It's too late for that. We've got our fingers in too much of the world for us to pull out now, and everything and anything we do is scrutinized and criticized by the world. Think about it, we went into Iraq, and the UN said we should have worked through them. Well, now we are at odds with Iran over their nuclear ambitions, and are trying to work it out through the UN, and they say we should work it out directly with Iran. We're criticized for giving aid to Israel, and criticized for not giving aid to other countries. We were criticized for going into Somalia, and criticized for not acting on Rwanda. We cannot win in international opinion, and we cannot pull out. Truly, the only thing we can do is look after our own national interests, and take the international community with a grain of salt.

Doubt it -- the US is too powerful to be neutral. When it comes to some sort of catastrophe or conflict everybody wants their help and support.
