How come McDonald's started me out at $6.75 and Hollywood Video starts out at $5.75? Plus McD's has benefits and HV doesn't. Why?

Because Hollywood Video is such a small company that it has signs around it so you won't step on it.
Besides, there are a lot of immigrants who work at McDonald's and since they are paid way less that the minimum salary, managers can afford to pay other workers more.
And these so-called benefits you speak of--you probably mean the fact that they feed you--are not very much other than a publicity campaign. Just think about it, they make you eat in the lobby among other costumers so they'll think "Oh, look, she's eating McDonald's food, that must mean it's really good!"
That's really why you're not supposed to eat inside the actual McDonald's (behind the counter, in the kitchen, in the drive-thru, etc.) Of course, it's a violable law. When there's not enough workers and I can't take my break, for instance, they always let me take some food home. Which you're not supposed to do because then costumers don't see you eat it.
That's how it works, hun.

McDonald's probably has a bigger profit margin and greater sales revenue, so they can afford to pay more than HV
