Well, David was meant to succeed as Buffy's first love interest, the getting his own series (whick harmed the show Buffy because while the crossovers were cool, some of the cast left with him) But James took a bad guy that wasn't meant to be much, and kept returning every few episodes until he finally joined the cast as a regular and kept me tuning in long afer Angel left.
The chemistry between Boreanaz and Marsters was amazing in the show's last season. The show was cut short and it is sorerly missed, partly because of the never settled shan-shu mystery plot, Fred/Illiria's character potential, and the afforementioned cast chemistry.
Gunn, Westley, and Connor were hot, too.
But Marsters really had to work for fan loyalty, the hard way, by talent and timing. Being a hero and keeping my love, not hard. But winning me over after being a hated villain? Marsters takes it by a bleached blonde hair. Sorry, David. But at least you have Bones!

David Boreanaz of course, but to be honest, I don't like how David reallly looks in person. He has redish blonde hair that curls all around his head and well come on, without the dark hair, dark clothes and moody but sweet attitude of angel ... he's just another good looking actor.
Personally I married someone who looks just like his charector angel - talk about obsession - but I don't like the way either charector looks in person to much.
In charector though both David and James are HOT!!!! But David always wins!!
Come on, be honest... if you could wrap your arms around either angel or spike you can't honestly say you'd say spike over angel!!
