yes. my grandaughter just turned 1 in APR. she got her very first taste of something other than baby food. She loved it. She had he own little cake from the bakery. it was also chocolate. Actually, she loved the icing more than the cake. my daughter had also check with their pediatrician and they assured her it was just fine.

What would be a birthday without a piece of cake. Sure give her a piece and enjoy this wonderful day with her.

Its okay to give your baby a small piece of their birthday cake if it is chocolate.

Sure. When my older son turned 1, he was interested mostly in the icing anyway. Actually, his second birthday was in March, and he was STILL interested only in the icing. :D I gave him yellow cake though. I don't know how much it contains when it's baked into cake form (my guess is not very much) but chocolate contains caffeine. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

My younger son will be 1 next week, and I'm going to make him a carrot cake. :)

Absolutely!!!! I made cupcakes for my son's first birthday and he could pick it up and smash it in his face. I would put something over that first birthday outfit, you won't believe where they can get that stuff. My boy has crumbs and chocolate in his hair and everywhere but it was so much fun to watch, I didn't care about the mess.

The good part is now that she will be 1 she can have many many things she has never had before, like peanut putter(if no allergies), honey, etc...... Have fun you are headed in to a whole new experience.

YES!

I entirely appreciate that you're wanting to keep her healthy and give her food that's good for her.

But don't we all need to let loose and celebrate every now and again? If you can't have a piece of cake on your birthday, there's something wrong with this world!

Don't make it something that happens every day...Go back to making sure she's eating right on a regular basis. She (we all) can be perfectly healthy, but still enjoy an occasional treat.

Of course! Thats the best part of the birthday party is watching a one year old eat cake with their hands!! When my son turned one I bought a cake (for everyone at the party) and then I made a cupcake and put it in front of him and let him dig in!! That way he can have fun with him own little "cake" and you dont have to worry about feeding finger squished cake to all your guests!! Have fun!! =)

YES!!!! Their first birthdays are the best. Better yet, make her a small cake of her own. Nothing to big, something she can pick up on her own, just to play with and make a mess!!!! You'll get some really good pics to look back on.

my daughter got an entire cake..she doesn't get sweets often..but you only turn 1 once...I didn't let her eat the whole cake, but half the fun is watching them wear the cake!! Just make sure if she has teeth to give them a good brushing and don't let her eat so much that she gets a belly ache..a piece is fine...
