Bamboo. It's just the best - doesn't warp, can get wet, doesn't dent or stain like hardwood or linoleum, and it's beautiful. Cork is a great option, too. Both are more expensive, but they won't have to be replaced.

If budget isn't a concern, bella wood carries the longest warranty. personal preference should come into play. For the kitchen, roll vinyl is excellent as it can be seamless in most applications. I would never put carpet in a bathroom. The trend today is toward "natural" tiles or stones, but when the trends change, the removal of these tiles are labor intensive. I also like vinyl tiles in a kitchen or bath, as they are easy to change. Covering your entire house with the same flooring makes your area seem larger. If you plan to do the installation yourself, vinyl wood flooring is an excellent choice.

It depend where you live. I live in Florida and was use to carpet when I lived in New York, but living in Florida and having two sons they use to bring sand in or the hot climate made the house hot with carpet. So I got tile easy clean-up. I like hardwood floors but to me they don't go right with a Florida home since our houses are made of cement and glass for hurricanes.

Try a bamboo floor -- they're beautiful, durable, and best of all, bamboo is a renewable resource.
