Honestly, college is a joke now.
I graduated 3 years ago with a B.S. (no kidding haha, it's bulls***) in Industrial Management and I cannot find a job.
I've even applied at being an assistant manager at Applebee's and they turned me down!
COLLEGE IS WORTHLESS.
Everyone wants EXPERIENCE.
From now on, I'm telling every kid I see, to work right out of high school and to just work their way up in whatever they choose to do. I have friends who did that and are making 40K a year and I'm UNEMPLOYED! I wasted $30,000, all to find out that I need to start at the bottom to get anywhere!
COLLEGE IS WORTHLESS!!!
It's seriously meaningless to have a degree nowadays.
It's almost as if going to college is now viewed as a way to coast for four years. It's true because college is a JOKE now, and it's so easy to graduate. High schools are LYING by saying college is needed.
I'm about to take a job as a waiter, go ahead and laugh

The point of going to college is to get a well-grounded education. If you spent four years in school and were unable to learn that, it's not the college's fault.
Your bitterness comes through loud and clear in this question: is this the attitude that you're putting out in interviews? If so, then it's no wonder you can't get hired. Your friends are making money because they've worked hard and not expected a hand out. You talk like you expect a handout, but guess what? Everyone, from the high school drop out to the PhD., has to start at the "bottom" and work their way up. Those who do so with a positive attitude and the willingness to prove themselves will always do better.

It's unfortunate, you havn't been able to hook up with an employer thus far, perhaps expand your searches more. The computer is a marvelous tool that is helpful, as well as newspapers abroad. Frustration is high, and so are expectations from our accomplished efforts sometimes...but don't give up! You may have to be starting out at a different level of employment, but try to keep open minded about it, you will meet someone, somewhere, who will require your skills. You just never know this job as a waiter may take you to serving an employer from the field of your interest. Keep a resume handy at all times, you never know when the opportunity will knock. Hoping for better days ahead for you...good luck with your efforts!

Your degree may be worthless, but college is not. A degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, accounting, business, IT all are in demand.
My wife went to training in Medical Coding, Billing and Transcription, lots of jobs.
Industrial Management? Is that liberal arts?
You might talk to some recruiters about the job market and seeking training for something in demand. Granted, my brother waited tables in a fine dining establishment and brought home about a grand a month after taxes.
I do wish you the best of luck. Reassess your life and goals.

I also believe college to be a waste in some aspects, being 42 and having no college, have never in the past, had any problems. But now after being uprooted from hurricane katrina am finding it hard to get anykind of job. I'm told that I have to much experience.
Face it they do not want to pay for experience only ignorance, and that come CHEAP

Well, in my position if i had a college degree i could actually get certified which would bump my pay up a great deal, Company is paying for everyone who qualifies to be certified to takje the classes, there are only two of us who cant because we dont have degrees are like 8 year experience yet. So College is not completely useless, i think it depends on the degree you get.

I agree with you my school loan payments are more than I make in one week. Also I agree with the person that said it's all about WHO you know. I live in a small town and that helps . I have two degrees and the girl in the office is going to college and working and she makes more than me because she is friends with the boss's daughter.

If you had done an internship while you were in college, you would have gotten great experience in you field.
I am sorry to say that it seems as if your attitude may be getting in the way of getting any jobs.
I have to admit that waiters can make a lot of money and I wish you luck!

I think it depends on who you know. But a college degree may be good to fall back on. You could always go back and work your way up to a Masters.

instead of being a waiter you should get a job in a factory, then youll at least have some job experience that goes with your major. maybe you should move to a different area that has more industry like the midwest. i moved to iowa from illinois to get my current job.
