most wild cats will tolerate water. some are even good swimmers like tigers. i think our pet moggies are just spoilt and don't have to go in to get food so don't but hungry enough and you'd see yours diving in after the fish...

Turkish Vans are a breed that love to swim. Tigers swim. Jungle cats are also known as fishing cats, because they are good at hooking fish out of the river.
Pet cats frequently hook a fish out of the tank or pond with a paw, they just don't like getting wet all over. The drive to hunt overrides the preference for dry feet. They don't like rain or swimming or baths. Neither do many dogs, but no-one seems to notice.

Surprisingly, not ALL cats hate water. They will actually put a paw in the fish bowl, or in the kitchen sink. It's just the concept of getting the entire body soaked, that most cats disapprove of. They can swim, if need be, but it's just their preference to not do so.

Yes,cats do love fish but they do not understand (cats) do not relate fish coming from water. It is natures'way of considering check and balances.

Cats are attracted to movement and they are hunters by natural instinct. They like fish because they want to fight or kill them. It has nothing to do with water. Although, my cats seem to love water. They annoy the heck out of me when I take a bath, trying to get in the tub with me. Sometimes they fall in and freak out and I end up with scratches on me because of that. :(

Not all cats hate water... my cat loves cold water from the fridge or ice water to drink and i have no problems bathing her, she just loves bathing, i will fill the bath tub with warm water and leave her in the tub and i will do something else and come back and will find her still in the tub soaking...and after bathing she will be raveneous and she loves tuna...

Because they like to eat the fish. I think a lot of them don't like to have to water all up in their fur because it'll stay there for a bit and get them all cold.

It goes back to the day when there was a fish & chip shop on every corner. They could buy there fish and not get wet.
