Why are you such hypocrites-the US citizens I mean? Why do you want other countries to allow freedom and want to muzzle your own press?

I'll give you the same answer:

There was a time when the press was considered the fourth branch. We relied on them to protect us from an over-reaching government and to uncover corruption.

The NYT is doing their job. The myth of the liberal media bias has created a public mistrust of anything other than Fox News.

Although, here's what Rich Bond (Bush I's campaign manager)had to say about it:
"Rich Bond, then chair of the Republican Party, complained during the 1992 election, "I think we know who the media want to win this election--and I don't think it's George Bush." The very same Rich Bond, however, also noted during the very same election, "There is some strategy to it [bashing the 'liberal' media].... If you watch any great coach, what they try to do is 'work the refs.' Maybe the ref will cut you a little slack on the next one."

Here's what Bill Krystol had to say:
"I admit it," he told a reporter. "The liberal media were never that powerful, and the whole thing was often used as an excuse by conservatives for conservative failures."

Just a few. It was a political strategy. It always has been. They aren't traitors. They are keeping an over-reaching government who has committed more than one crime in their so-called "war on terror".

Honestly, your use of language could be considered libel (since you've written it).

If Gonzales gets his way and starts going after Newspapers, then the US will have entered a brand new territory resembling only the most right-wing fascist dictatorships. The press is protected by the First Amendment. If you start tearing up the most vital of Constitutional protections, then you 'bout as well invite the terrorists in, because this country would no longer be worth saving.

Nonsense (to lib answers) - if Lincoln could suspend habeus corpus during the civil war I think the press could muzzle itself for the good of our country.

The grey lady is whoring herself to her teeth-gnashing base that hates Bush so much they'd like to see the US defeated in order to shame him.

They hate Bush so much that they want us to lose the war just to make Bush look bad.
