The best compost pile I ever had was made one summer from leftover fruit skins, vegetables that were left over, leaves raked from the previous year, and a bit of dirt thrown over the whole thing. We would throw in coffee grounds, seeds, and other compostable matter. The next year, we had the most wonderful watermelons growing out of the pile! They were yummy!

Go to your garden centre and buy a compost bin and compost active (I think that's what it's called) to help make the compost. Then put all your vegetables/fruits peels, tea bags, egg shells, egg boxes as well, and cut grass.

It will take a year before your compost is made but it will be worth it!

My friend has been doing for a year and her compost looks far better than what you would buy from a shop! Then it's a good way of recycling too. I'm getting a compost bin this week-end!

Enjoy your composting

First off all you'll need something do keep all your vegetation in such as a composting tub. Then the rest is so simple - just put all your grass cuttings, leaves and dead plants plus uncooked kitchen waste into it. The smaller the items you put in the fasyer they will break down into compost It'll take at least 12-18 months though but faster if the tub is warmer. You can also add a composting agent to speed up the process.

Leave vegetable peels in a covered outdoor box, with a little grass cuttings and shredded newspaper.

Don't put in any annual weeds, bindweed, or meat in the heap.

Sit back. Several months later, voila... compost!

I nailed some flats together with one side hinged and just throw everything into it. Some people layer the brown, green, and household waste, but truthfully anything will rot if you leave it long enough, except pinestraw, but I use that for weed control.

Place all your organic materials (grass, leaves, etc.) in a pile and let nature do the cooking. Usually works best to let it cook over the winter. You need to mix it occasionally. (Turn it over).
