I've read that dreams are always in color because they are based on your brain and your experiences, and you live in color, so if it wern't for television, we woudn't even have the concept of a "black and white" world. Think about it- close your eyes and try to imagine what your world would look like if it was black and white. It's pretty hard to do, and would be almost impossible if you've never seen a black-and-white tv show or movie.
They say that if you don't remember colors, it's more likely that the "color information" is just deleted, not in shades of black, white, and grey like tv.

I don't have any official sources- since all scientific studies on the subject are really subjective, but it's just common sense.

I know that mine seem to be mostly in color. I have also spoken to some people who say that theirs are in black and white only. I'm sure someone somewhere has done a scientific study on it, so I would search the net in your place.

I know that I dream in full living colour, in fact i dream with all 5 senses. If you want to know if you dream in colour, before you drop off to sleep, tell yourself when you awaken, you'll remember the colour of some object in your dream (sort of like a post-hypnotic suggestion). Make sure the object is something that could be any colour, like a car or a shirt - if you pick something like a stop-sign, you might "remember" seeing a red stop-sign, but you won't know if you actually remembered a red stop-sign, or you're only telling yourself you did because you know stop-signs are red.

you will know you dream in color if you recall the dream and be able to remember the color of an item in it. only 10% of all who dream will do so in color.
