Uhhhhhh....no. Of course not. The little Hispanic children need an education that will prepare them for life in an English-speaking nation. They should learn English.
Just as the Irish did.
And the French.
And the Germans.
And the Dutch.
And the Turkish.
And the Cubans.
And the Egyptians.
And Chinese.
And any other flavor of immigrant we have had.

To suggest that little Hispanic kids can't learn English is an insult to their intellegence.

US children should be learning a foreign language in elementary school because research has shown it's very easy to learn at that stage of development. Spanish is practical due to the large numbers of Hispanic immigrants as well as the proximity to the US of many Spanish-speaking countries. However French is widely spoken throughout the world so it merits inclusion in elementary school foreign language programs as an alternative to Spanish, IMO.

As commerce continues its relentless drive toward globalization, children who are fluent in foreign languages and cognizant of foreign cultures will have an advantage in the marketplace.

Those who live in predominantly Spanish speaking areas should learn Spanish. Duh! I live in San Francisco and we sent our blonde, blue-eyed son to a Public Charter school in our neighborhood where he learned to speak Chinese. He's in High School now, still persuing his studies in both Cantonese, in which he's fluent, and Mandarin, in which he is approaching fluency. We look forward to the day when he's a business executive in China and moves his mother and I into an apartment in Hong Kong on Victoria Peak, overlooking the harbour, so we can live in the style to which we would like to become accustomed.

I believe that if you come to AMERICA than you should speak ENGLISH, who cares how much easier it makes it for immigrants. Nobody taught AMERICANS Italian when my grandparents immigrated here. I guess that's the difference between a country that works for what they have and a country that wants everything handed to them. Why is it that some people hate their government and come here for a better life and complain about the USA and try to change our policies. Go home and change your own country. SPEAK ENGLISH, let's not "DIAL 1 for ENGLISH" it should be automatic.
