Zoul was like, pure evil, he couldn't share anything, let alone a hot piece of booty like a young Sigourney Weaver. Maybe when she was in her "I'm half-alien and will rip the heads from kittens and spit acid all over their still twitching bodies" mode, but not when she was doing her whole "maiden in distress" thing, Zoul just has too much taste for that kind of thing.

Zuul took over her body and as we saw from the end of the movie Dana was still inside and was fine. Zuul probably was lying because she wanted the ghostbusters to percieve her as more powerful when she was actually unable to do away with Dana completely.
Or, maybe Zuul believed she had done away with Dana when in fact Dana was still inside.

In the move Ghostbusters:
Zoul was the equivalent of a minor god so he completely dominated Dana's personality. She was still in there though, or she wouldn't have had any personality after Zoul was busted. Think of it as a multiple personality disorder were a new personality takes control of the body. If that new personality is strong enough it can dominate any other personality.

Dana was still there, it's just that Zoul was doing all the talking. Kind of like Penn and Teller.
