Can anoyone tell me how pathetic the world cup rankings are?? I mean the #2 (Czech Republic) and the #5 (USA) team in the nation are put in the same bracket (why?) and both are knocked out in the first round. You put the US in any other bracket, and I think and they make the next round. What a joke.

Brazil has been number 1 forever. Ask any Brazilian if they give a damn. The answer is no! The reason is: they know the game.

These are not world cup rankings - they are FIFA rankings.
Pathetic - NO!! Not at all pathetic. You lose some games and you win some games. It's unfortunate that the ones you lose you don't choose when to lose them.
Regardless of the occasion, you lose some and you win some ~ that's why not everyone is number one in the FIFA rankings.
And by the way, these are not world cup rankings - they are FIFA rankings. All teams regardless of whether they've bee in the world cup or not are ranked by FIFA (the highest governing body of football).
Number 2nd and 3rd in FIFA rankings have never won the world cup - not even once. They have, however reached the finals twice both Holland and Czechs. USA (5th) on the other hand has never reached the finals, NEVER!!

USA wasnt playing well enough to deserve to go on its just a fact. I would of liked for that to happend but i gotta face reality. Fifa is actually going to do a new rankings system after the world cup which will take into account the strength of your victory. USA and Mexico get to be in the top 5 teams in the WORLD because they accumulate wins beating terrible Central American teams. Czech Republic was undefeated in the qualifying stages meaning they also accumulated points although they mostly played horrible teams. Lets hope this new system will actually makes sense

I agree with two comments:
No one who knows football pays any attention to them.
the thing is teams from weaker confederations tend to score higher (because they qualify more often, etc) than better teams from more competitive confederations. mexico and usa are no better than argentina and england, for example, yet score higher
Those are the two important comments... if you know the game you know the game is played on the pitch and in football ANYTHING can happen. On top of that it is nothing more than a formula. A formula that is not voted on, and does not have political leverage. It is a formula based of how well you qualify, how early, how many goals for and against (home and away matter too)... along with many other scewed facts... the point is, watch the game, and realize they are not meant for rankings like Americans think of them. Not in the least. Brazil was the ONLY accurate one on that board.

USA is no 5 coz they keep on winning against small countries around them and accumulate the points. There is nothing wrong with czech republic being no 2 they r a good team, its just that they had a very bad world cup, with most of their main strikers injured.

a mix of the two would be extra precise. purely upload the two positions and divide by potential of two. Portugal at 5, Brazil at 8, Colombia at 10, and Mexico at 13 or 14 make extra experience. BQ: Mexico 4-0 BQ2: an uneventful tie
