If you are a member of the crew of the Enterprise and were travelling the galaxy but had a wife/husband and children at home on Earth, would it be considered cheating on your spouse if you were to have a sexual encounter on the holodeck? after all, a holographic partner is not a carbon based life form!

Not cheating and one of the more profitable endeavors of The Ferengi.

What you suggest is impossible in the Trek Universe.

During several TNG episodes, where the holodeck was introduced, it stated you could "interact with the individuals in the holodeck but you could not have relations with them" Data speaking to Commander Riker in one of the first episodes on year 1.

No it's like watching porn and playing with yourself.
Although (Star Trek Geek showing through) not all encounters on the holodeck are with holograms. Often you will use it as a romantic backdrop for sex with a humanoid partner

On Star Trek Voyager, Tuvoc got it on with a holodeck image of his wife when the "Vulcan Seven-Year Itch" hit.

I don't know, is looking at porn cheating? This would be the same thing.

I think that Dr Phill got it right (for once) when he said "Anything you wouldn't do in front of your partner is cheating" so if you ask your spouse if you can and she says yes, then it is not cheating. If you do it and don't tell her because she will get mad, it is.

Yes but I rather have an affair with an kinky alien! Remember at warp speed even though you have been gone 5 years ,on earth it is just a few seconds! So the Spouse and kids will never miss you.

Not if the holodeck recreates an image of your spouse.

It would pretty much be a very life-like fantasy, sooo while I wouldn't advice sharing the experience around, it wouldn't exactly be cheating. Though if it repeatedly features someone other than one's wife/husband, perhaps you should reconsider the marriage anyway.

NO
It's called masturbation, just like the guy that uses a blow up doll, only the holodeck technology is better.

Sounds like a technologically advanced form of masturbation to me.

Cheating? Nah.

A problem? Maybe.

the holodeck can manifest anything you desire, your imagination/passion comes to life. its similar to masturbating and visualizing that your with someone else. If you can call that cheating then i guess yes.
