The best program that acts in real time against spyware adware and popups is spy doctor(Trial version) free but please buy the full version ($20)

http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/ Download the free SE version and run it regularly. The first time will take the longest to complete, but after that, once a week should only take a few minutes each time to run.
