I was born this way. My parents never wanted to decide whether I should be a male or a female. I have the features of a woman, so that is what I tend to put down on my application. Only those that have ever been romantic with me know of my personal areas.
So, I have never had a problem finding a job.

First: I'd use the word "transsexual," since "shemale" connotates someone working the sex industry w/o the intent to finish the physical transition.
(Unless, of course, that is what you intended.)
It depends on how well socially the transsexual can pass as the chosen gender. If no one realizes they're transsexual, they're obviously treated just like everyone else.
The ones that I have known who do not pass easily do have trouble finding work, depending on profession and competence. (I would say it is worse in some ways for a M2F, since that has more stigma attached for those who cannot pass -- and a woman on average makes less than a man anyway, so they're stepping down economically in the job market.)
For such people, they might as well kiss any customer service or interacting directly with clients goodbye -- anyplace where the person might be "read" and thus cause potential discomfort. (How established you are prior to transition determines whether you can make it work. If you are well-known and liked and considered competent, that really helps.)
Those who transition but have trouble passing have better chances with technical fields (such as engineering) where they only have to interact with a few people or work alone, and where a certain degree of expertise is necessary so the selection pool is limited to begin with.
Still, transitioning throws one's life into turmoil. Many people lose their jobs or are forced to take a worse one, or move from their chosen career field if they cannot pass easily.

What IS a shemale?
But can't you not really tell what they are on the surface? So how could employers discriminate against them if they don't realize the person is anything other than the sex they appear to be externally?
