You are in for a good fight and it is well worth it. In Canada we had to fight Ottawa to nationalize Health Care for Every Canadian Citizen. That was in the "Dirty-30s' " Depression time era. It was hard enough to socialize anything back then. We shed a lot of blood on capital streets but we got what we the people needed. Across the board health care for everyone regardless of income.
I hear some Americans say they are just fine with the way things ware. Well sure, if you can afford it.
The other Americans I hear from, many are friends and cousins tell me they need A National Health Care coverage for all Americans. We have the medicine and doctors but why hold back on giving your own people Health Care? Sounds selfish and Ivory Tower Idealistic. If you don't want Health Care Socialized, that's fine. You can always have a two tier system. As for those who keep saying Canadas Health care System is collapsing, you do not know the truth of it. In 1991 we elected a right wing conservative government that slahed all services to Canadians. We have since then actually improved our services. Can't understand why anyone would want to deny their fellow Citizens Health care unless they are selfish . Not every one has a rich daddy to pay the bills, or an inheritance. You wouldn't believe how many Americans come up here every day looking for a Doctor and medicine, hospital etc, trying to desperatley convince our Health Workers they are Canadian. We cry when we have to tell people we can't help them. It's heart breaking but many doctors and hospitals will take in Americans without Canadain citizenship under the table and pay for the surgeries and meds out of their own collective pockets. March on Washington . That is the only way to get the Arrogant richie-riches in America to listen to it's people. Have you noticed all the Congressmen are old, rich white men ?They have a lot of stock in Pharmacutical companies. Billions of dollrs in profits each year. And I don't believe it all goes to making new drugs. We make new drugs here and so do Europeans and we don't tell our people lies, that it takes Billions of $$ a year to find a new drug. That's B.S.

You make the assumption that everyone wants nationalized health care. I don't know about everyone else, but I prefer the current system where I pay for my health insurance through my employer. Nationalized health care systems around the world are not that effective, and most studies show that the quality and timeliness of such system is disgraceful. You do not get to pick your doctor, need an operation get on the waiting list, and most of all the tax base required to run such a system is oppressive.
What you call a right is an infringement on my pocketbook. No one in this country has to go without health care. You can walk into any community hospital and they are required to see you whether you have health insurance or not. Sure you might have to wait a little longer, but under a nationalized system we will all have to wait a lot longer.
Now if you want to explore ways to reduce medical and insurance costs I am all for that, but if you are just looking for a scheme where you don't have to pay for your own coverage, I would suggest relocating to Canada or England.
To Kimberly: If you believe that you should really research the canadian system. The average taxpayer pays 40% in taxes to support the system, and many canadians are forced to come into the United States for essential services.

Health care would still be rationed out to those with and without money the same way it is now. There would be waiting lists for services. This is the reason so many people who have the money come to the US from Canada for care. They're willing to pay extra of their own money so that they don't have to wait as they might have to in Canada.

You show me anywhere where it says that 'pursuit of happiness' equals free health care, and I'll put you down for it, ok? LOLOL
It doesn't say anything like that, and what we NEED is healthcare reform, not ANOTHER DAMN entitlement program. We've got plenty of welfare leeches out there already, people who don't lift a finger and get their way paid for nothing.
The government, meaning the Entire Country, is now 8.4 trillion dollars IN THE RED, and YOU want a handout? LOLOL
Sorry, sparky, no free lunch on MY watch...

If Canada can do, why can't we. We are one of the wealthiest nations with the most freedoms, yet we take the WORST care of our people. Take all the money that supports the drug fight and put it toward heath care coverage. We arn't making a dent in controlling the drug use but mabie if we get people heathy, the use of drugs will go down.

Yes we do deserve it. I wish I knew the answer to that. I just don't understand what the problem is. Our Senators just don't vote to get it done I guess. Maybe because we are a free country and Doctors are soposed to be able to charge what they want and the government would put a cap on it. Although now the insurance companies put a cap on it. Very interesting question.

Wonderful, another person who hasn't realized the miserable failures of government programs like welfare and FEMA, wants to give responsibility for everyones' health care to government as well... and Canada's health care system is falling apart under its own weight.

DO you really want some Gov BURRO-CRAT making health decisions for you ??
How about the TAX INCREASE that would be needed to pay for it?
No money? there are programs in place to help you.
If you have money buy an insurance policy,it'll be cheaper than aGov. program.
