i dont want him to think its weird that i emailed him, cuz we dont talk that much to each other...but what should i say?

Do it. Take a chance because he may like you too you never know. Send him something subtle not like over the top. Like how has your week been or a joke or a funny picture you have found somewhere.

theres nothing wrong if you emailed him/her
just greet her like "hello!!!"
then ask him/her something so that he/she could reply like
"how are you today?"
