Is it a regular IPOD, or a NANO, or a MINI, or a SHUTTLE?

If it's a regular Ipod, it should automatically be recognized when you connect it to the computer with Itunes on it.

For the other, smaller Ipods, when the Ipod is connected to the computer, you should be able to go into and tell it which playlists you want to add to the device.

It'll overwrite the songs that are currently on the Ipod, however, so make sure Mom is OK with you replacing her songs. Hopefully she has them on her computer, so she can put them back on her Ipod when you return it.
