etc is spelled "et cetera." Et in latin means "And." Cetera means "the rest." So etc = and the rest.

Et Cetera was made famous in the play/movie: The King and I.
I saw the movie and the play and loved it. Even though it is mostly fiction and actually outlawed in Thailand. It was considered disrespectful to the Royal Family (the story was based on the English school teacher's experience in the Thai court many years ago).
The Thai King was smart and using etc. quite frequently, etc., etc. and etc. Sometimes it was used to avoid stating the obvious or avoid detailing the difficult subject.
If you haven't seen the movie, you might want to rent it.
You might enjoy it, etc., etc. and etc.......

it's an abbreviation for Et Cetera, which is Latin for "and the others". It is often used to represent the logical continuation of some sort of series of descriptions.
