The polarity is what makes the atoms in the H2O molecule stick together if not for that then there would be no water, meaning no life except bacteria, and no us. I think that is pretty important.
Also it can dissolve most anything.
There is high latent heat of fusion meaning it needs a lot of heat removal before it changes to ice= does not freeze very quickly therefore giving us drinkable water and grow crops and everything else.
There is high heat capacity. IT needs a lot of heat or energy before it vaporizes therefore it does not vaporize quickly and turn in steam during hot seasons and months leaving us again with no water.
There is high surface tension. Therefore it allows most things on it to float since water has a high density. Ice can float on it during freezing seasons. If ice did not float it would go to the bottom and freeze all the marine life like fish and plants.

Water being polar gives it the ability to have a high boiling point. It also makes it a universal solvent because of its dipole-to-dipole attraction. It is beneficial to us because it acts as a good solvent for other elements/compounds/mixutures.
