My mam booked me a surprise weekend away with a few friends(fri-sun) for next week and only told me today. I've already had my 2 summer weeks off on holiday in Greece. But my manager has always said that i should ask a month in advance for time off. What will i say? The truth? Make something up? My mams already paid for it, and i really wanna go!

My mam is my mother, it's an Irish term.

I would tell him the truth. Tell him that is all payed for and it can't be cancel or reschedule and that you will make it up to him this only time. Don't forget to use please.

Your mams should have talked with you first, since you have responsiblities.

You just need to tell your boss the truth. Be a man. He or she might say no or might say yes, but you need to be upfront and handle this properly.

And yes, WHAT IS A MAMS?

Call in and say you have a rare eye disease...you just can't see yourself at work.

What you should ask yourself is, does your mam not like you working at that job? I bet your boss won't care if you go, but he might not care about firing you also.

Yeah, the truth is always easier, but you don't have to tell him all the details. Just say that something came up and you won't be able to be there that weekend.

If you lie to your boss, you're sure to be in trouble.

Tell him the truth and a dignified and respectable manner, and if he allows your time off, reinforce your good will by bringing back a souvenier for him.

Tell the truth - if you lie about it you are likely to get found out and then your boss would be really mad!

always tell the truth or else it will come back to bite you in the butt. If your boss is cool, there should be no problem. If not, good luck!

It depends how good natured your boss is and how willing he/she is to help you out. Consider current workload and decide if it's viable for you to have time off without causing mayhem
