I'm moving from a city near Sacramento, California (Elk Grove to be exact) to a city near Memphis, Tennessee (it's called Germantown). I've already researched it and everything, but it would be nicer to have personal opinions about tennesse.

Germantown is really nice, it's more of an upscale area. They have really good schools, good shopping, really clean, and is close to Memphis. You can drive from Memphis into G'town and never know you went from one city into another. G'town is in the outskirts of the county and is more rural than most areas and it's not uncommon to come across a house that still has it's land with a barn and some horses.

Hi I lived in Memphis a while ago then moved to Dallas, but I am moving to Southaven,MS which is a small town outside of Memphis in about a month. Now to answer your question Germantown is the nicer area of Memphis as the city is plagued with crime and drug problems like most metropolitan areas. Germantown has the county schools which are by far better than the city schools. I like Memphis and I think you will find that the people are friendly. Be sure to check out the Peabody place and the clubs on Beale Street. I have been to Graceland but I am not an Elvis fan. Still it was interesting. Also if you visit Cordova TN there has been an explosion of shops, malls, and restaurants.
Be sure to check out the Memphis in May festival next year. Great music and food at the bar-b-que cooking contest.
