Most people who play harmonica dont know much how about the theory of it. Thats the beauty of the instrument. Every harmonica has a different key, your probably going to want a G or a C because those are the most common. From there it is probably easier to just feel it out. Harmonica is a very easy instrument to just learn by ear. Im afraid learning the notes is actually rather hard.

You actually suck and blow.

Every blow gives you thirds, and sucking gives you the in between notes. Try alternating sucking and blowing all the way up the harmonica and you will have played a scale. Then you can alternate the notes of the scale to play songs.

By the way, each harmonica is tuned to a different scale, so if you are playing with other instruments, you will need to get the right harmonica for the song.

Each reed makes two differnet tones, one on draw, teh other on blow. I play by ear, and don't read music very well. It is a matter of practice, to know (and I think it becomes an unconscious act), which action to take to get the desired sound.

Sometimes you blow and sometimes you suck. Also use your tongue and lips to cover all the holes but 1.

Aside from blowing, you also have to suck (or draw as it's called).
