depends on the type and size of the company but i have only been hired on my education and experience not anyone i knew. knowing someone can make it easier to get your foot in the door though.

From an HR person's perspective - it is both. If you do not have the skills that are required for the position then you do not get hired. If you do than you do get hired. Knowing people just helps push your resume through the chain on command a lot easier.

If you are applying at a very small company, who you know might be the key factor, but if it is a larger company, who you know will get your foot in the door. The rest is up to your ability to sell yourself and your resume of experience and skills.

When it all is said and done, how you perform on the job is the most important factor. Your performance will show in interviews, resumes, and will be shared by your professional network.

It probably depends on the job. All the jobs I've ever interviewed for and was hired for were with people I never met before and had no connection with anyone I knew. They hired me based on my education and experience.

There are certain jobs that really who you know is all important. Other jobs require education and experience. Most well paying jobs tend to go to people who know a lot of rich people. Therefore, rich stay semi rich in a lot of cases ie. Devlopment, brokerage, investment banking. Thats not to say education and experience aren't important.

only in politics.......who you know may get you in the front door and a week on payroll, but if you show you aren't up to it, you are gone.

With global competition, companies are looking for any reason to let deadwood go.
