absolute confidentiality - under no circumstances will the swiss banks ever give out any information about a client's account
so, if you have money you don't want people/police/governments to know about then put it in a swiss account

Its not trace-able.
Meaning that you do not have to give your correct name and address. Most of the bank accounts are accessed only by an account number.
So if you need to hide some money (even from a wife you will be divorcing soon or the IRS) you can put money into a swiss account and it can not be found.
Its a good idea for anyone who thinks they may be getting divorced or needs to hide cash from the government.

As I understand them, the chief advantage is their secrecy, i.e. the way they are structured such that they are linked to you so you can access them, but due to the nature of this structure, nobody else can find out about them, much less access them. However, I understand they do not pay any interest, so they're more like a safety deposit box than a traditional account.

I don't know. I don't have one. But if someone wants to donate one to me, and put lots of money in it, I wouldn't have a problem with that. :)
