Love in its truest form (and not to be confused with like or lust or kinship) is the ability to give totally and completely of one's self and being without condition nor reservation. Anything less than this is not truly love and it is rarely found in reciprocation so cherish it when found.

Other languages have a host of words with different definitions that the English language lumps together as "love"
There is a friendly love (Phileo in Greek)
Romantic or sexual love (Eros)
Unconditional spiritual love (Agape)
Love of activities
Love of yourself - self-respect
etc.
The most important form of love is the unconditional or spiritual love which isn't a feeling, but rather a decision to put another ahead of yourself, no matter what. When you love someone this way, you decide every day that their needs are more important than your needs and their wants are more important than your wants. The ultimate expression of this love is to die so that the one you love might live.

Love is a condition or phenomenon of emotional primacy, or absolute value. Love generally includes an emotion of intense attraction to either another person, a place, or thing; and may also include the aspect of caring for or finding identification with those objects, including self love. Love can describe an intense feeling of affection, an emotion or an emotional state. In ordinary use, it usually refers to interpersonal love, an experience usually felt by a person for another person. Love is commonly considered impossible to define.

There is no real answer to this question but what I have learned of what love is to me is...
(L)isten: and Validate them by hearing and empathizing.
(O)verlook: their minor character flaws as they will overlook yours.
(V)alue: who they are and what they mean to you.
(E)xpress: how you love them not just with words but with actions.
