So much that they worry about really doesn't matter in the large scheme of things, such as what to wear or whether they are offending someone, etc.

I think wether or not you are offending a person matters in large scheme of things, maybe not what to wear though :P
If you come off as being offensive, people will keep rejecting you because of the personality you have. I know I wouldn't want to talk to somebody if I think they are going to offend me, wether they mean it or not.
Beisdes, women aren't the only ones who worry - I know quite a few guys I go to school with who strees over their marks more than they should. Of course, this doesn't compare with worrying about what to wear in the morning, but it does compare with offending people. I'm sure guys worry about their looks from time to time ;)
