Last night they had a game show thing on television. The top answer when matched with purple was Purple Rain. I was wondering does it mean anything? Thanks in advance :-)

His favorite color is purple, the rain are his tears from seeing what his parents went thru in their dysfunctional home. He's singing about how he see's his mother cry all the time. It's his version of Alice Coopers, Only Women Bleed. Spousal abuse.

I am only speculating here, but Prince had or has a messianic complex couple that with the name Prince and change rain to reign and consider his affinity for the color purple which is often considered to be the color of royalty. Well I think you get what he is trying to say. That if we all follow Prince everything be okay. Having just looked up the lyrics they support my theory.

I heard the term "purple rain" in the song "Ventura Highway" by America in the 1970's.

I'm not sure on this, but I think he is coloring his emotions purple because of pain but also because of bruises and such.
