I know that people are not going to believe this...however I went almost 5 days without sleeping. One year in college I was studying for finals and working and could not sleep even when I tried. After all that was over the next 3 nights I slept for 12 hours each night. I would NEVER do that again!

about 50 hours. I was in the Navy and we all had to stay at our posts as long as we had an aircraft out. They kept coming and going. I don't know what happened (if anything), may have been a drill, time-study, or other research. I was having visual and tactile hallucinations - but no auditories. Odd as audio hallucinations are common being 2nd only to tactile hallucinations. I dreamed while awake, but remained alert and instantly responsive throughout. Others had to stay up for 60 hours. usually I slept about 6 hrs a night. after this 50 hour run, I slept about 7 1/2. Felt fine - although a little tired. slept good again that night, and woke up back to my normal insane self. I was so happy. Despite what some people seem to believe, "sleep deprivation" is not an option for death certificates.

About 73 hours total, and I was ordered to go to bed when I started to hallucinate (this was in the Navy... pretty funny story; I'm putting it in my memoirs)
