It's a natural defence mechanism. We prefer to lie instead of facing the consequences of the truth.

i hope everyone doesn't start saying that lying sucks and that its only bad people who do it because really everyone has lied at some point. if we didn't lie we would just go around hurting everybodies feelings all the time for the sake of not telling a little white lie. And then this question would be 'Why do we hurt each others feelings all the time?

Because for some, it's easier than having to tell the truth and facing the consequences. For others, it just comes naturally cause they've been lying for so long that it's the only thing they know how to do so much so they're now pros. For me I make it my business to ALWAYS tell the truth no matter what the consequences because i've come to realize that lying tarnishes ur reputation and it prevents you from reaching your fullest potential because if it's one thing that ppl hate is a liar. Lying also bothers your conscience and makes you feel very guilty.

To add excitement to our lives
To get out of trouble
And some people cannot help it due to OCD

To cover up secrets and try get out of trouble, but it can backfire when you get caught, thats the funny part (well when it doesnt happen to you!)

lying is used to cover your butt when you really mess up "i didn't do it" to make others feel better about themselves "no that dress doesn't make you look fat" to spare someones reputation "that doesn't sound like something she would do" to attract others "yeah id love to meet your parents and then go to a ballet"
