Only time will let you know if you have a true friend or not.With different issues that come up in your daily walk in life,how this person reacts and responds in helping you determines a lot.True friends don't just last a couple of weeks,true friends are there forever.Good-luck and i truly hope you find a true friend-they come in handy.

You can tell if they are genuine if they go out of their way to help you, if they are always there for you, if you share personal information and can talk with each other freely. If you call them and they are busy and tell you i will call right back, but they dont? Is this a real genuine friend? But if they drop everything and devote their time and attention just for you, then you have a genuine friend. OH yeah, before i forget. Genuine friends dont date or see your girlfriend behind your back.

When they treat u like an equal, when they can warn u about certain ppl and things with great accuracy, when they are reliable, like say u 2 make plans to go see a movie and they say they'll meet you there for five and show up at 5:00 and not stand u up. When you confide in them knowing that they have not revealed your secrets to anyone else. If a 3rd party tries to break up the freindship or steal that friend from you, the friend stands their ground and doesn't allow it to happen because they care about you and like you for who u are.

A genuine friend is always there to help u.He/She never puts u down or judges u for anything.When u can go to this person with the most drastic secrect or news and they keep it to themselves,no matter what.A genuine friend is someone with a good heart and soul.

You find out fast when the chips are down. They should do as much for you as you do for them (except money, if one has more - I have friends that it is a hardship on them to pick up checks in restaurants, so I let them rarely so they do not feel like moocher). I have some great friends & some amusing people who are not friends in my life.

Sometimes a family member will do you dirty before a friend will. Find a friend like that and there you have it...a true and genuine friend.

you can tell if someone is a true friend by the way they act around u. if they openly tell u their problems, stick by u when u need them the most, and is there anytime you need him or her.
