So you can keep yourself entertained in class with nice, evenly drawn circles. As for the spinning on pencils, the ruler tends to get taken away after it flies of and hits someone.

The three mid-size holes are so you can put it in your three ring binder. The big one is so you can hang it up or something of the sort.

So you can put a string on it to wear around your neck in the event that you come across something you want to measure. And it's best to put a keyring in the hole then the string on the keyring. That will be the next thing rappers start wearing around their neck.
