Last night, I was watching the game which Roger Clemens pitched.
Question-How is he the losing pitcher from that game? He left the game after 5th inning down 2 runs. The 3rd run in sixth inning was given up by another pitcher.
If the Astros eventually lost the game 4-2, why is the lost pin on him?

The losing pitcher is the one who is in the game when the the run scores that puts the winning team ahead for the remainder of the game.

Ex. if a pitcher gives up a run in the first and is removed, and the final score is 15-8, as long as the scre was neve tied, that pitcher is the losing pitcher. May not be fair but that's the rule.

Because the Astros never regained the lead at any point, and Clemens left while they were still behind. I know it doesn't make sense in some ways because if he gives up 2 runs and the Astros score 2 or more, why is he at fault. But that's how it's determined.

You said it yourself; they were down 2 runs when he left the game. They were losing. So, he is the losing pitcher. If they had gotten a lead after he left, then lost it again, or if he had left ahead, and other pitchers lost it, he would have had a no-decision, but since they were losing when he left, and continued to lose, he is the losing pitcher. It doesn't matter if subsequent pitchers lost even more. As the starter he set the tone; a losing tone.

Good answers from #1 and #2. Face it, my friend, Clemens is washed up. He will not be the savior for the Astros, and he will continue to be the self-centered, moronic drama king of all of baseball.

Hope this helps you change your mind.

Because he is the pitcher that gave up the run that put the Twins ahead for good. That is the rule and it is a good rule.

I apologize, I didnt see the game, if there was any runners left on the base when clemens left, they are still his "problem". if those runners scored at all, and it gave the twins the lead and they held it, he loses. thats the rules
