Ask your child what THEY want to do.... There are cheap things like a community pool, museums, $1 movies... and there are free things like parks, library etc. Just be sure to ask, because at 8 yrs old they should have MAJOR input on what to do for the summer and it makes ANYTHING more exciting when they get to pick.

i have an 8 yr old,and im lucky shes easily amused,we go for walks,play catch,take them swimming.

take turns making up the next thing to do
be silly, laugh and play a lot
read together

computer games.. they love them!!
outdoor or with them will be swimming, tennis, ice skating..
