Josh Gibson indoubtly. He is the best ballplayer to live. It could be argued that he cannot be compared with Ruth because he never played in the MLB. But I believe that the pitching was just as tough in the ***** Leagues and even the life was tougher.

Josh Gibson was an amazing baseball player and would probably rank as one of the top players of all time if he hadn't spent his career in the ***** Leagues. Since the level of play was different, it's hard to compare the stats he put up with those that Babe Ruth accumulated in the Majors. Because of that, I'd give the slight edge to Babe Ruth, since MLB is considered the highest level that someone can reach in baseball.

As an overall player, because hitting isn't everything, I would say Josh Gibson, because Ruths defense was less than stellar after the first few years of his post-pitching career. The bulk behind his bat slowed him down immensely in the field, as well as his perpetual hangovers. But as an icon, no one can touch Ruth.

The all around player aspect is why I'll never believe a DH should be the MVP. Even though I'm a Yankees fan, I think Big Papi really IS all that & more, but hitting for power, even in the clutch, is just one tool. That's why I vote for Gibson; after the first 10 years or so of Ruths career, he was a 1 tool player; Gibson had all five through his career.

I would have to lean toward Babe Ruth on this one solely because of the level of competition. There is little doubt that Josh Gibson would have been a major star in the majors had he been allowed to play which is a travesty and a black eye on American Society. I find this question interesting since this year the Hall of Fame will have it's largest induction class ever. 17 players and 1 executive from the ***** Leagues will be inducted after a 4 year search of records and game accounts have compiled about 90 percent of the records from all ***** League games ever played. This years inductees will most likely be the last for any of those players from that era.

Well Babe Ruth was inducted as a major leaguer, and Gibson as a ***** League player, there stats are both great, but you'd have to say Babe Ruth, just because of his legacy in MLB and his ability to pitch then hit. Gibson is still unfamiliar to many, which is a shame on it's own. Babe ruth is third in homeruns, gibson is like 1,000,000th. now ask your question again!
