Sources say it got it's name for frolicking nancy-boys getting to frisky with each other to the point of causing severe spinal injury to the catcher. The two lads featured in the movie didn't start that activity there at brokeback, they were just carrying on a lusty tradition that started there years ago.

Because they did a poll prior to release and the original name Bareback Mountain, didnt test too well.

OMG my uncle and i were just dicusing this....we're pretty sure that it got it's name from an actual mountain or road where they meet.
