If he is Sicilian then maybe he wants his family to see him married. Have you thought about two weddings?
Friends of mine got married here with their friends, then had a Buddhist ceremony in China for his family. His family were so happy to be included.

It's your choice! You're the bride so you get to choose the church you are married in. If you want to get married in your church, then you should. Honeymoon in Sicily sounds really nice and it will be less trouble if your wedding guests don't have to travel all the way there. It's your big day, it should be perfect
