They have long names, first, midle and last name, but they are known by they nick names, as it is tradition in Brazil to call someone by a nick name, and it is usually short or end in "inho", an afectionate way to call someone, like Ronaldo and Ronaldinho, actually, they are both Ronaldo, the inho is only makes the name a nickname and thus also differenciates one Ronaldo from another.

Brazilians such as Pele do not have only name. The names Ronaldo, Kaka, Robinho and Ronaldinho are just nickname given to them by the Brazilian press. Speaking of Edson Arantes dos Nascimento is a bit of a mouthful, Pele is easier.

Because they have like 4 names e.g. Ronaldinho = ronaldo de assis moreira, how ugly would it be on a shirt? so he picked Ronaldinho, Kaka his real name is Ricardo something his brother couldnt pronounce his name when he was younger and was calling him Kaka. Robinho has x names (Robson ...) he picked Robinho. Just to let you know they don’t pick these for fun. Probably some does but mostly do not. And its better more unique :)

I had the same question until I looked up some of their profiles and saw their full names. Believe me, once you do you will agree that it is much easier to remember "Ronaldoinho" than Ronaldo de Assis Moreira. Look up Pele's full name - Neh - don't! Its enough to just say PELE!!!

They don't. They all have full names like the rest of us but it is easier for commentators to call a match using one name, when you think of it all the players are called by their surnames mostly, think "Kewell" "Beckham" etc. Can you imagine fitting Ronaldo's whole name on the back of his shirt? You wouldn't be able to fit his number on there and he wouldn't stay still long enough for you to read his whole name, lol.

Every player in Brasil since they start playing football, they receive a nickname (by their coach or their friends) or they already came with one (the way their family call them) or do you think someone is crazy to name his son KaKa , Cafu, Dida .

They don't only have one name. It's just for quick speech purposes by the media and whatnot. You wouldn't want to be reporting on TV about Ronaldo and saying his full tongue-twister name now would you? ; )

They are NOT inbred..they are extremely religious in nature...THIS COUNTRY ACTUALLY BELIEVES IN GOD as a whole...

They use their first names because that is their culture...but also because EVERYONE has about the same last names...SILVA, COSTA, Dos Santos, Lima, Da Costa, Da Silva, these are just a few...if you have 23 guys with nearly the same last names...how would you know one from the other???
