I think it would the perfect job for me. Because I am very shy and if I danced in the background the crowd would'nt pay no attention to me. Only the star that's performing.

Go for it, and settle for nothing les. YO have dreams. There are some people who don't even have jobs, and the ones that do settle for a reagular 9-5 job that isn't what they want. If you want to DO IT!

Back up dancers show a lot of courage because sometimes you know you won't be noticed but , what does that matter.... I don't think it does . I have always wanted to be a gymnast and here I am a gymnast. I know when I am competing that there are three other events going on at the same time and that not everyone is watching ME but the judges , my parents, my brother , and my coach are. But I think whatever you are a : gymnast, back-up-dancer, an ice skater, well things might be different with ice skating because you are the CENTER OF ATTENTION!!! You see ice skaters are not shy at all but it feels good most of the time to JUST BE YOURSELF.If you have any more questions contact me at Spscherling@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Savannah

People look at dancers. Especially the person or persons who AUDITION prospective dancers. So if you are shy and are uncomfortable being looked at, you are outta luck there.

But your question brings up a deeper issue: you are selling yourself short by thinking of doing things sort of "on the sly" that you like to do and billing yourself as a second, even third, banana.

Why not tackle the shyness and underconfidence problem first? Read up on the subject and look over suggested remedies for it, maybe even see if you can get some professional assistance with that.

Once you wear down your shyness and bolster your confidence, you won't have to worry about interacting publicly and can move forward with lots more success.

Sonyack is on the right track by saying that shyness won't cut it with the audtioners. Those so-called "back-up" dancers are actually the dancers who are at the top of their field because they're the ones getting paid to be professional dancers. You don't get to where they are by being shy at dancing. If you saw them in the studio during a regular class, you'd see how much personality they project at all times. They have to stand out at all times in order to get selected from huge auditions of hundreds of dancers who are all desperate for a paying gig.

I encourage you to take dance classes, and it's very likely that the training, alone, will reduce your shyness.

I'd say to set some higher goals for yourself. Of the thousands of people who want to be dancers, a very small percentage make it. So your chances of even being a professional dancer are slim.

I said this before...

When you are on stage, be somebody else.

It isn't you there, it is the personality you become.

We all have nics here, remember? I am Dio the great. I can get on a stage and Dio is doing the performing, not Brian.

Don't limit yourself to being a back-up dancer.

It is not you on that stage. It is what your stage presence is projecting.

Nobody, and I mean nobody, goes on stage as themselves.

Well then, go for it. Never know, you may even get over your shyness and want more. But, just for the record, I always check out the backround dancers, they are usually hotter.

If you're that shy, why be on stage at all? Just get a desk job in some office somewhere.

first thing that came to my mind "ur a follower, not a leader", but its alright.
it also depends on who or what ur dancing to, sometimes back up dancers can hype up the show : )
