Are hostels a safe place to stay on vacation?

No I dont mean hotels I mean a hostel...for those of u who think that was a typo....if u dont know what a hostel is dont answer the damn question

Usually hostels are safe but be very aware of your surroundings while you're there. There's more petty theft in a hostel than in a hotel; seems like more people in hostels have sticky fingers than in hotels. Don't keep valuables in your room, keep an eye on who is coming and going, and be friendly to the other guests but not *too* friendly. Don't invite other hostel guests to your room or out to a club or restaurant. Most of the people who stay in hostels are just budget-minded travellers but there's a small percentage that are scam artists and petty theives. But if you use common sense (don't flash your money, don't ask a stranger to watch your bag while you go dance or use the restroom, etc) you should have a nice, uneventful stay.
PS bring your own pillowcases. Many hostels don't provide them for you, and often when they do, they're kind of icky.

There should be a hostel association where ever you go. Check out the website & google reviews for any you might want to stay at. A definite thing to bring would be a mesh steel bag to secure your backpack to a stationery pole, etc., and your own silk sac to sleep in as bedbugs can be rampant in hostels. Always be security conscious no matter where you stay.

I think it depends on which country you're looking into. I haven't heard any stories about unsafe hostels in Europe, but personally I think it would be safer to stick with a hotel.

I think they are pretty safe although you have to be aware of your surroundings in any situation anytime anywhere. Hostels are a good way to see some diversity.

You mean Hotel right ? most all inclusive are very safe to stay

Generally they are safe but you have to take your own precautions.

I have heard they are. They arent "nice" but they are safe.
