i think arena did a horrible job. he is so loyal to old players who play in europe that were good 4 years ago. he should've had more confidence in the fast young players like dempsey and johnson. even the roster he named was terrible. what's with the 4-5-1? thoughts

"If the 4-5-1 does not fit, Arena must quit."

Having only one striker and dropping two midfielders back in defense weighs the American team heavily toward their keeper's end of the pitch--and people wonder why they can't score goals. Hard to put it in the other net if it's always around yours; Arena should be sent packing and replaced with someone who has more soccer sense.

That, and ol' Bruce didn't even seem happy when we equalized against Ghana. Should have been the best moment of the tournament for him, but he just kind of frowned and threw his fist around lazily. Awkward.

i dont think he's at fault for letting the veterans play. they took him to the quarterfinals in 2002, so itd be natural to let them play again. Dempsey and Johnson had some time to show what they had too. Dempsey was solid, and Johnson showed flashes of brilliance, but it wasnt enough because the whole team played unispired for the important games. They didnt really have the mental toughness they needed. Arena is at fault for not having them mentally prepared. And the 4-5-1 and the inability to make effective changes at halftime showed he didnt really have a strategy. i also hate the way he and some of the players keep blaming the referee for everything.

The problem with USA Soccer is simply that the number of world class American players are relatively few and that soccer is not a national passion. Soccer is seen as a recreational sport in America, not a professional one and most Americans won't pay to see professional matches...even those who like soccer.

For the US to be able to field a credible team, a culture change would be required. Otherwise, an occasional quarterfinal berth is the best the US can ever expect to achieve.

If he did a horrible job, please, name wich players would you had named. We don't have any better players. Coaches work are overrated. Games are win or lost by the players on the field.

I do. I think that it is time to hire a "non American" (I vote Dutch or Brazilian) coach to break this plateau the team has reached. Agree? Jido
