In your last question you partially answered your own question about who it serves. It also serve republicans who suck up to them and get votes and money from them by maintaining the embargo.

You know, I have thought the exact same thing. Why is it that we can cut deals with China when we have a lasting grudge against Cuba.
I will say that Cuba has something over China. Cubans are the only immigrants who cannot immigrate illegally. If they can stand on US soil they are American.
What does the embargo serve? Well when it comes to cigars, nothing. Americans buy their cigars all the time overseas and sneak them in all the time. I don't think that the embargo changes the plight of the poor in Cuba. We take oil from Iran and look at their people. The only think the embargo is doing is keeping money out of Castro's hands.

Castro is an evil man. There is nothing wrong with refusing to do business with him. He owns everything on the Island and controls everyone. The hope is that the people of Cuba will rise up against him. I don't think that will happen, but I still don't want us to do business with him.
China is not really communist any longer. The are primarily capitalistic, and apolitical.
If we did do business with Cuba, it would not make that much of a difference. Cuba already has completely open ties with Europe and the rest of the world. It is still a communist craphole with a Dictator.
Gracie, we do business with quite a few countries we disagree with. Venezuala and Boliva are prime examples.

I think it does absolutely nothing!!!! It's stupid and pompous. I feel that the main reason why we do so much business with Chinese although they are communist, is because they have a lot of invested economy in this country, and they are a highly successful industrial country. I believe it's just a "I'll scratch your back, you scratch mine" arrangement. It just makes the USA look better if we do business with at least one country we don't agree with by the way their country is governed. I guess to the government Cuba can't do much for them, which is absolute crap, being that I am of Cuban descent. We still sell Korean cars, and that's a communist country, but yet we can't sell some damn cigars......Funny ain't it?

The Cuban expat foyer in Miami would opt to whine about it, yet confident that is time. enable's be truthful, the embargo is a source of derision and leisure to three element of the global, an celebration of america of a stamping its ft and sulking like a spoilt brat that ought to't get its own way. It did an same with Vietnam after the North Vietnamese shown the U. S. safe practices stress its ar$e. the U. S. variety of a bald eagle would opt to get replaced with a image of a infant with its bottom lip stuck out.

It doesn't serve a purpose. I think a lot of it comes down to fear. Cuba is awful close in proximity to the U.S. I agree with you in that it has nothing to do with communism. If that were the case, then we wouldn't be trading or having any sort of business with China. It's time they lifted the embargo. It's stupid

Cuba is probably better off with the embargo. This has probably kept them in a more simple way of living.
I can't see that development in medicine, roads, ect. and advanced technology has improved anyone's lives very much. In fact, just the opposite in many ways.

The removal of the embargo is up to Fidel. There have been overtures, but HE is too stubborn to make a move.
