if i want to edit my presantation on microsoft powerpoint viewer i can just see the presentation ie is it a read only file ?And can you change the file of the powerpoint like from a read only to something that you can edit .

right click the file and see if "read only" box is checked. uncheck it and see if it works. if it doesn't then it's pass-worded in PowerPoint and you can only view it.
difference between PowerPoint 2003 and the rest of them is like at any other software: the newest the better and more featured.

the powerpoint viewer only allows someone to view a powerpoint presentation in a read-only state. To actually edit or modify it you would need a full version of powerpoint (one that doesn't say "viewer" in it's name). You can find free trials and short runs (like it'll only open fourteen times or a limited number) I believe on the internet, if you only need the program for one or two projects ever. But if you plan on using the program for several projects, you'll need to purchase the full program.

The Powerpoint viewer is just that - a viewer. It allows you to view already made presentations. But you can not edit or create. Only view.

To create presentations, you need to purchase the actual Powerpoint Program, not just the (free) viewer.

power point 2003 viewer which you have, as the name suggests can only reas presentations made from powerpoint.it cant make or edit presentations.
it you want to make or edit any of your presentations you need the microsoft office suite. the latest is microsoft office 2003 (office 2007 is in beta testing stage & will be released in 2007)
office 2003 comes bundled with great softwares & features. like
access 2003 (database)
excel 2003 (spreadsheet)
infopath 2003 (designing forms)
outlook 2003 (email software)
powerpoint 2003 (presentations)
publisher 2003 (create webpages,flyers, newsletters)
word 2003

and other small applications like
clipart manager
picture manager
etc.
