Infatuation
Desire focuses on a particular someone and suddenly nothing matters but that compelling attraction. The dictionary strongly suggests that the overt result of infatuation is a reduction in mental capacity.
Love
Love is an emotion of intense attraction to, care for, or identification with persons, place(s) or thing(s); a desire to be close to, move and construct its object. This can include love for one's self. ... Love is a condition or phenomenon of emotional primacy, or absolute value. Love generally includes an emotion of intense attraction.
Hope this helps!!

Infatuation produces some exciting physiological responses. It's the thing that causes goosebumps and heart flutters and stomach butterflies. Though infatuation can precede love, love is a deeper feeling of commitment toward a person. The bubble of infatuation can be and usually is easily burst within a relatively short time. Love, on the other hand, is selfless and focuses not on what the other person does for us but what we can do for the other person to maintain a healthy relationship. Infatuation happens to us. Love is something we grow into and develop over time. Infatuation can be "love at first sight" that goes on to develop into a true love, but it more often is simply infatuation - a passing feeling that ends quickly relative to true love.

Infatuation can be binding, choking. It's so much more than love, but in a negative way. I.E. You "would do anything" for the person that you're infatuated with, even if it's wrong or harmful; anything that he/she wanted. Love, real love, is never negative like that. Real love gives to you back in a positive way.

I have had this forever and I think it is pretty true:
"Love or Infatuation?
"Infatuation is instant desire. It is one set of glands calling to another.
"Love is a friendship that has caught fire. It takes root and grows, one day at a time.
"Infatuation is marked by a feeling of insecurity. You are excited and eager, but not genuinely happy. There are nagging doubts, unanswered questions, little bits and places about your beloved that you would just as soon not examine too closely. It might spoil the dream.
"Love is quiet understanding and the mature acceptance of imperfection. It is real. It gives you strength and grows beyond you to bolster your beloved. You are warmed by his/her presence even when he/she is away. Miles do not separate you. You want him/her nearer, but near or far, you know he/she is yours and you can wait.
"Infatuation says, "We must get married right away! I can't risk losing you!"
"Love says, "Be patient. Do not panic. Plan your future with confidence."
"Infatuation has an element of sexual excitement. If you are honest, you can admit it is difficult to be in one another's company unless you are sure it will end ---- in intimacy.
"Love is the maturation of friendship. You must be friends before you can be lovers.
"Infatuation lacks confidence. When he/she is away you wonder if he/she is cheating. Sometimes you check.
"Love means trust. You are calm, secure and unthreatened. Your beloved feels that also and that makes them even more trustworthy.
"Infatuation might lead you to do things you will regret later, but love never will.
"Love is an upper. It makes you look up. It makes you think up. It makes you a better person."

I will tack on one, even though these are great answers. Short and sweet, and how I think of the difference.
Infatuation is the feeling you have for the 'idea' of the person that you have built up in your fantasy.
Love is the feeling you have for the person that they actually are, after you know them.

I have attached the 2 definitions from the American Heritage dictionary here at Yahoo, but here is the basic gist::
Love is a deep meaningful feeling of true affection and feeling for an individual or object, whereas infatuation is a short lived passion for a person or object.

Infatuation is a feeling, love is not. Infatuation nearly always has to do with lust and sex. Love does not.

Infatuates are in love with them-self, but they don't know that
So normally the love is always for somebody else then yourself, and it is unconditioned
