Your son should go from 2 naps down to 1 between the ages of 12 months and 18 months. For me with all of my children, this was a hard transition. For a month or two what I would do is go for a walk in the stroller or take a drive somewhere when it was typically time for the first nap and let them sleep for 15-30 minutes. This will hold them over until you can put him down at an earlier 2nd nap time. (for me - first nap around 9 am (15 min) then put them down around 12:30-1:00 for a real nap. Then in a month or two of doing this you can phase out the first nap. It is so much nicer to go to 1 nap a day as you can actually leave the house and do some things. Also, children vary when they eventually phase out all napping, mine were between 3 to 5 years old. I stopped the naps when I noticed they were having trouble falling asleep at night. Good luck.

My son is the exact same age and is napping as I write this. He sleeps in the morning and late afternoon and then all night. I have no plans of stopping the naps. If it was up to me, he would take 2 naps a day until he is 18.
It cracks me up to read the answers you have to this question. Why in the world should you cut out one of his naps? How else are you supposed to get a shower or sanity? Enjoy the nap times. I sure do:)

All kids are different. My 15 months old still take 2 naps too.
Experts said by this time they will start dropping 1 nap.

Both of my boys stopped taking two short naps (about an hour each) and went to one long one (2.5 to 3 hours) right around 11 - 12 months. My younger son will be one year old next week, and *occasionally* he'll still take a short (30 minutes) nap in the a.m., but he always takes his long nap right after lunch.

I say drop one of the naps. Some may say differently. If he is still taking that morning nap and then the afternoon one. I'd say drop the morning one. For the time he would be napping, keep him active through that nap time. This may take several days if he is used to these naps. If you skip the morning one then you may want to move the afternoon one up a bit. He will be cranky after play and missing that nap he used to it and that morning nap will be a thing of the past.
Depending on how he sleeps at night and what time he goes to bed may need to be adjusted. My advice is to gradually change his schedule so he doesn't get too fussy.

I worked at a Daycare for about a year in the infant and toddler room and between the ages of 15-20 months is when we start to see the kids staying awake and only taking a nap after lunch. But each child is different, your son will adjust when he needs too.

By the age of three most children are down to one nap. This can happen earlier depending on the child. From then on an early afternoon nap will stay until they are past kindergarten age. Most schools have afternoon nap times in the beginning two or three grades.

You could slowly adjust his sleep schedule so he takes one nap and maybe goes to be a little earlier to compromise. There's no certain age when a child stops with the napping. If they're tired, they will fall asleep. If they need the sleep, I wouldn't take it away. That's why I suggested tweaking the nap schedule. It's good that you're okay with the 2 nap thing. Have a great day! Enjoy your baby!

When he starts having trouble sleeping at night usually that is the sign to scale back the morning nap and eventually take it out.
My son started taking one morning nap (we still can't get him into the one afternoon nap schedule) from about 10 a.m.--12noon when he was about 19 mos. (he is 21 mos now). When that happened we moved his bedtime from 8 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Usually kids will let you know when they are/aren't getting enough sleep. If you take the nap out or cut it back and he is acting cranky then you know it was too soon and you should either switch his bedtime or add the nap back.
