before i go over to a friend's house, i usually call them ahead of time. but instead of just sayin "hey is it alright if i come over?" what is something else that i could say that isn't the same old phrase for askin if its alright to come over?

Just say hey are you doing anything? Wanna get together and do something? Tell them if they do you will come over.

Maybe you can say "do you guys want to watch a movie" or "do you want to have a potluck". Saying "is it alright if i come over" kind of puts them on the spot so I would try not to say that. they may want time alone and not know how to tell you without feeling as though they'r'e going to hurt your feelings. So if you make suggestions such as the aforementioned, it gives them a chance to say "no i don't want to watch a movie" and then that would be your clue that they want space.

It sounds like to me that you are wanting them to ask you to come over instead of you asking if you can come over. But whatever the case may be, it don't mater how you ask at least your asking, my friends don't even call they just show up and that can be annoying. So, just be like "dude, wat up witcha, I got my blinker on turning in your driveway, don't eat all the pizza!

How about asking: "What are you up to?"...or, "Here I come, ready or not" (that's kind of funny)...or"You have won some fun time with me"...P-L-E-A-S-E, don't worry about the s.s.!!!!
