My wife's father is Cuban and he and others in the family are always saying don't flush toilet paper, put it in the waist basket. To me this is crazy! put it in the toilet and flush. My wife says its normal to put it in the waist basket, I say in Cuba, PR, or Mexico you may use a trash can but here in North America we flush. What is you opinion?

In the countries I've visited outside the U.S., people put it in the waste basket to avoid plumbing problems. In fact, it's often posted (for tourists' sakes) that you should not flush the tissue. We do have a stronger plumbing system in the states, but to answer your question, does your toilet get clogged? If not, you might as well keep flushing it. If so, you might consider a small waste basket.
