Such scans are not terribly correct.

An internal or vaginal ultrasound is more accurate, as the child can be seen clearer and with out some of the obstacles that are in the way with a normal ultrasound. Either way both can determine the sex of a baby at 21 weeks. That is if the ultrasounds knows what to look for.

There r chances dear. The early scan can usually be performed abdominally but, on occasion, a vaginal scan is necessary. Sometimes the scan will be done through the front passage (vagina) but the ultrasonographer will talk to you about this if it proves necessary.
A second scan, done at about 20 weeks, is to check that your baby is normal. Most babies are healthy, but sadly some have problems which could be serious. If you really do not wish to know if the baby has an abnormality, it may be best to decide not to have this scan.

I've had 4 kids and im 6 months pregnant and let me tell ya hun, if that doc can predict that from lookin in ya cooch then give me the number. LOL. I have NEVER heard that, I've ALWAYS had to get an ultrasound and even they aren't 100 % correct all the time. I would take what the doc said with a grain of salt, and look for another doc!

Vaginal ultrasounds are the best. They can see more than a outside scan. But again it depends on how the baby is positioned

The only 100% way to determine the sex of the baby is with an chromosome match from an amniocentesis. I was told through my whole first pregnancy that I was having a girl and they pulled out a boy. I would not rec commend an amnio though since they put you and your baby at risk. Because I was 36 when I had my daughter, they did an amnio, so I was 100 % sure I was having a girl.

It is all monitored by hormonal levels, at the end of the fourth month your baby has already developed his genitals so it is predictable, if you are having a baby boy testosterone can be detected, much more progesterone if it is a girl.
