Bob Dylan wrote this song with drugs in mind. It was written in the time period of mass drug experimentation. Great Song!
And yes, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and (especially) Young are awesome.

They're singing about a tambourine man. Songs were not all full of "hidden meaning" for the most part in those days. It is what it is.
